violin and viola lessons

As a Violin and Viola teacher Rebecca has a strong belief that every individual should be nurtured at their own pace and allowed to grow in their own time. Lessons are tailored to each individual, working to their strengths and identifying areas of weakness that may need attention. Rebecca also believes in setting students up with a solid technique from the outset, preparing them to advance through the stages. She aims to set students up with a wide base of general musicianship from the beginning, including aural skills, music reading and developing a strong sense of rhythm. For young children this is taught through a variety of games and resources, always aiming to create a strong sense of enjoyment through learning. With these basic elements of musicality taught alongside a good technique, over time, music can become a second language and an additional means of expression.

Many students thrive when they have goals and Rebecca encourages them to work towards ABRSM exams where appropriate. She has been preparing students for exams for sixteen years and has a 100%  pass rate. She is equally comfortable teaching students who prefer to work towards other goals such as playing in festivals or concerts, playing in an orchestra, learning a specific piece, improving sight reading or an aspect of technique, becoming more confident in their playing, or rekindling a love for their instrument. Adult students are welcomed, whether they are looking to revive their skill, get help with repertoire for orchestral playing or starting from scratch.
